How to Select a Genre Category

Selecting a genre is a very important aspect of writing a book! Keep in mind, however, that the information you use to categorize your book within Chapterly will have no bearing on the options you select during the publication process with your chosen publisher.

During onboarding, when you signed up for Chapterly, you were asked to select the category and genre of their book. This information can be changed at any time. Any changes that you make to the title page of the book will be saved automatically.

To edit the category and genre of the book, select the book in the Library panel of your Writing Studio or click the gear icon for that book on the Writing Studio dashboard. Once the book is selected, you’ll be directed to the Title page, where you can select a category. You will have the option to choose: Kids & YA Fiction (Young Adult), Fiction, and Non-Fiction. These are broad terms, but you'll get to narrow it down by genre.

The genre options available will depend on which category you chose. Select the one that best fits your book. If nothing quite matches, that's okay! Again, this part of the process is more for you and your creative purposes and will not affect how your book is categorized when published.
