It's never been a better time to make the most of your creativity, and Chapterly makes it easy! You can sell completed content as a one-time purchase or set up monthly subscription tiers for your followers--or both!

Chapterly’s Monetization Fee

In addition to your monthly or annual membership fee, the cost of selling your content on our platform is 10% of every dollar earned. Though the monetization fee is non-negotiable, you can offset your membership costs by referring other authors to Chapterly. For each referred author who completes account setup, you’ll get 30 days of membership free!

Setting Up Stripe Connect

First thing's first! To start monetizing your work, you'll need to connect a Stripe account. If you don't already have one, you'll be prompted to complete their sign-up process. This will involve additional steps like connecting a verified bank account.

Whenever you're ready, head to the Payment Information tab of your User Settings and click Stripe, then Manage Stripe Connect. You will be redirected to Stripe’s login/account creation page. Once your Stripe account is set up and connected, you’ll have the option to return to Chapterly.

If you have questions about using Stripe as a merchant or run into any trouble with their platform, please reach out to the Stripe support team!

I don’t want to use Stripe. Can I still make money?

At this time, we are only able to offer Stripe as a method of monetization. If you have questions or concerns about using their service, we encourage you to explore their support resources.

Single-Item Purchases

If you have a big library of completed works, you might consider selling them each for a one-time fee. You can still offer bonus content as you would with a higher subscription tier by making multiple editions of your story.

  1. Upload your story in the Writing Studio library or use the editing tool to write it.

  2. Head to the Stories section of your profile.

  3. Select the Work in Progress tab and click Go to Story Profile for the story you wish to publish.

  4. On the next page, click Edit Story Profile. This will produce a smaller window where you can set the price in USD and toggle the Publish option.

  5. Once you’ve saved your progress, the story will be moved to the Published section of your Stories page.

Subscription Tiers

If you're serious about your writing and willing to commit to a posting schedule, you have the option to offer monthly subscription tiers! You get to set your prices and determine what each tier is worth, be it a specified number of chapters per month, access to bonus content like art, playlists, or deleted scenes, or even an invitation for the reader to get involved in your creative process.

Not sure where to start? Here are some suggestions:

Just keep in mind that if you fail to deliver the content you've advertised, it is your responsibility to handle all refund requests and transaction disputes via Stripe.

  1. You can set up subscription tiers by clicking the dropdown in the top right corner where your name is displayed. Go to your profile, then select the Tiers page. Click the + sign to add a tier. You can update them anytime!

  2. You'll notice that the Free tier cannot be deleted. This is required so that you can share your profile anywhere on the web and have at least some content visible to the public.

  3. Once your tiers are set up to your liking, you'll be able to choose from the list each time you post new content.
