Some of My Writing Disappeared!
Updated over a week ago

Don't panic! Your writing is saved somewhere, even if it doesn't currently show up where it you left it.

No matter the cause, the first place to look is your Revisions. You can view all versions of the text by clicking ellipsis at the top right corner of the chapter in question.

Possible Causes and How to Avoid Them

If you've been working offline (perhaps unknowingly), your changes were automatically saved locally to your cache. But you can't sync with our server if you don't have a stable enough internet connection. This can be especially problematic if you're using multiple devices and one of them isn't consistently connected to the server.

Sometimes, internet connection can fluctuate without our even realizing it, since not all websites alert you or behave differently without connectivity. Google, for instance, cannot be used without it, so the page won't load. But since Chapterly can be used offline, we don't interrupt your writing time with notifications that you're not connected.

The easiest way to avoid this is to make sure you always have a stable internet connection or, at the very least, ensure you connect with the server at the end of each writing session.

In the rare event that the content doesn't show up in your Revisions and you've done all you can to make sure you're connected, please contact our support staff. We'll pass the issue along to our tech team, who can pull your content directly off the server, to be sent to you in a txt file.

Again, don't panic! As fellow authors, we know how maddening it can be to lose any amount of creative work, so we'll always do our best to make sure it doesn't happen to you!
